Module 3
Module 3 of the Canadian Culture and Communication for Nurses program is a 13-week program designed to help internationally-educated nurses gain the communication skills needed to be successful on the job in Manitoba.
Module 3 is an advanced cultural communication program designed for internationally-educated nurses who have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 8+ in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (IELTS and other language tests are also accepted). If you are working as a nurse in Manitoba, you are also eligible to participate in this program.
This program includes online lessons, as well as weekly onsite classes.
- Week 1: Orientation
- Week 2: Connotations/Therapeutic Communication
- Week 3: Culturally Sensitive Care/Skimming and Scanning
- Week 4: Compare and Contrast/Working with Angry Patients
- Week 5: Confidentiality/Reading Strategies (SQ4R: Preparing for licensure exams)
- Week 6: Lay Language (Idioms/Slang)
- Week 7: Documentation (Charting Skills)
- Week 8: Documentation and Reporting
- Week 9: Shift-to-Shift Reports
- Week 10: Assertive Communication
- Week 11: Assertive Communication/Review
- Week 12: Review
- Weeks 13: eCLPA (portfolio) meetings and Potluck
